Wang received the BSEE degree from Tsinghua University, China, MSEE degree from the Chinese Academy of Science, and PhD EE degree from State University of New York at Buffalo, in 1985, 1988 and 1996, respectively.

Wang has more than six years of electronic industry experiences, most recently with National Semiconductor Corp., Santa Clara, CA, from 1995 to 1998, as a Staff R&D Engineer. From 1998 to 2007, he was with the Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) as Assistant and Associate Professor, and directed the Integrated Electronics Laboratory at IIT. In 2007, Wang joined the Dept of Electrical Engineering, University of California, Riverside (UCR), as Professor and Director for the Laboratory for Integrated Circuits and Systems.

Wang's research interests center on RF/Analog/Mixed-Signal Integrated Circuits (IC), Advanced on-Chip ESD (electrostatic Discharge) Protection for ICs, Systems-on-a-Chip (SoC), IC CAD and Modeling, Emerging Semiconductor and Nano Devices, etc. His research has been sponsored by the National Science Foundation and the global semiconductor industries.

Wang's teaching interests concentrate on semiconductor integrated circuits. He prefers to prepare students with both fundamental knowledge and industry-desired skills by challenging them with application-oriented problems and familiarizing them with industrial standard design methodology and tools.

Wang's academic credits include one book entitled “On-Chip ESD Protection for Integrated Circuits” (Kluwer, 2002), more than 110 peer-reviewed papers and six U.S. patents. Wang received the CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation, USA, in 2002, the University Research Award from Illinois Institute of Technology in 2003 and the Chunhui Outstanding Overseas Scholar Award from the Ministry of Education, China, in 2006. Wang serves as Editor for IEEE Electron Device Letters and Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems I. He was Guest Editor-in-Chief for IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, Guest Editor for IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits and Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems II. Wang is currently Vice President and elected AdCom Member for IEEE Electron Devices Society. He has been an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer for both the Electron Devices Society and the Solid-State Circuits Society since 2001. Wang has been holding several joint appointments, including Visiting Professor at Tsinghua University, China (2005-2006), Consulting Professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China (2005-2008) and Instructor at University of California, Berkeley, Extension (2002-2007). He is a Member of the IEEE VLSI Technology and Circuits Committee, the IEEE Analog Signal Processing Technical Committee and the SIA International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductor (ITRS) committee. He has delivered numerous invited technical talks at academic/industrial forums around the world and is an active consultant to the semiconductor industries. He has been serving on program committees for numerous international conferences. Wang is a member of Board of Directors for the North America Chinese Semiconductor Association.
